Why the administrator matters
The administrator is the person who can add and remove users, change roles and manage account settings. If the only administrator leaves without transferring the role, no one can manage the account — you would need to contact us and prove your authority as a director to restore control, which is slower than doing it in advance. Plan the handover.
How to transfer the role
- The current administrator signs in and opens Users.
- They promote a staying colleague to Administrator (add them as a user first if needed — see adding a user).
- Once the new administrator is confirmed and has secured their login, the outgoing person can be removed.
Because this is a sensitive change, we may verify identity — see how we verify your identity.
Always keep two administrators
The simplest way to avoid ever being stranded is to keep two administrators at all times — usually two directors, or a director and a trusted finance lead. If one is unavailable, the other can act, and if one leaves, the account is never without management for a moment.
If the administrator has already left
If the administrator has departed without transferring the role, contact us. We will verify your authority as a director of the company before reassigning administration — protecting the account from anyone who should not have it. Have your company details to hand to speed this up.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have more than one administrator?
Yes, and you should — keep at least two so the account is never left unmanaged. Directors are the natural choice for the administrator role.
Who can make someone an administrator?
An existing administrator promotes another user to the role. If no administrator remains, we can reassign it after verifying your authority as a director.
What if the old administrator won't cooperate?
Contact us. As a director of the company you can ask us to reassign administration once we have verified your authority, regardless of the previous administrator.
