The wrong way and the right way
It is tempting to just send your accountant your password so they can 'have a look'. Do not. A shared login cannot be attributed, cannot be limited, and means changing your password every time the relationship ends. The right way is to give them their own Viewer user so they can see what they need and nothing more — and you can remove it in one click when the work is done.
Add them as a view-only user
- Open Users and choose Invite user.
- Enter your accountant's email and set their role to Viewer.
- They set up their own login and can then see statements, activity and documents — but cannot move money or change settings.
See adding a user for the full steps and roles and permissions for what each role can do.
Or just share a statement
If your accountant only needs figures for a period, you may not need to grant access at all — simply download and send them a statement. See downloading statements and exporting your account history. This gives them exactly what they need with no standing access.
Letting them speak to us
If you want your accountant to be able to contact us about the account, they must be recorded on it — as an authorised user or nominee — before we will deal with them. We verify anyone acting on the account; see how we verify your identity. When the engagement ends, remove them.
Frequently asked questions
Should I give my accountant my password?
No. Give them their own Viewer login instead. It is safer, keeps actions attributable, and lets you revoke access instantly without changing your own password.
Can my accountant see my statements without full access?
Yes — either add them as a view-only user, or simply download and send them the statements they need for the period in question.
Will my accountant be able to move money?
Only if you give them a role that allows it. A Viewer role — the right choice for most accountants — lets them see everything but change nothing.
