What we check and why

As a responsible lender we must confirm we're dealing with a real company and genuinely authorised people. That means Know Your Customer (KYC) and anti-money-laundering (AML) checks: verifying the company against Companies House, confirming directors and persons of significant control, and checking the identity of whoever is acting on the account. These protect you as much as us — they're how we stop someone impersonating your business to borrow in its name.

How verification works

Much of this happens automatically by comparing what you tell us against trusted sources. Occasionally we may ask for a document or an extra confirmation, especially for a larger facility or where records don't match. When we act on a sensitive request, we also verify the individual — see how we verify your identity on the phone.

Make it go smoothly

The single biggest cause of delay is a mismatch — an out-of-date registered office, a director not yet filed, a trading name that differs from the registered one. Keep your company details current both with us and at Companies House, and checks will usually pass in the background. Learn more about the terms in KYC and AML.

Your data in verification

The data used in verification is held and protected like the rest — see how we protect your data — and your rights over it apply. For the questions directors most often ask about eligibility and checks, see the answers hub.

Frequently asked questions

Why do you need to verify my identity to lend?

It's a legal requirement for regulated lenders, and it protects your business from anyone trying to borrow in its name. Genuine, current details make it quick.

Will verification delay my funding?

Usually not — most checks run automatically. Delays almost always come from mismatched or out-of-date records, so keeping your details current is the fix.

What if my details don't match Companies House?

Update both so they agree. A mismatch can trigger extra checks; matching, current details across us and the register let verification pass smoothly.
