The principle
We don't keep data indefinitely 'just in case'. Data is retained only while we have a lawful reason: to run your live facility, to meet legal and regulatory obligations, and to handle possible disputes or fraud claims for a limited period afterwards. Once no reason remains, the data is deleted or anonymised.
While your account is open
For as long as you have a facility with us, we keep the data needed to run it and meet our obligations. You can access, correct and, where applicable, restrict this data — see making a data request and correcting an error.
After your account closes
When your account closes, we retain only what law and regulation require — for lending records, fraud prevention and potential legal claims — for the applicable retention period. This is why an erasure request can't remove everything immediately. Once the period ends, that data too is deleted or anonymised.
Getting your records first
Because access ends at closure, download anything you'll want beforehand — see closing your account. You can still make a data request for personal data after closing. For more on the data we hold and why, see what data we hold.
Frequently asked questions
Do you keep my data forever?
No. We keep it only while we have a lawful reason — during your facility and for a set retention period after — then delete or anonymise it.
Why keep data after I've closed my account?
Law and regulation require lenders to retain certain records for a period, for fraud prevention and potential legal claims. After that, the data is removed.
Can I get my records before they're deleted?
Yes. Download statements and exports before closing, and you can make a data subject access request for personal data at any time, including after closure.
